Welcome to the Forest of Dean Cave Conservation & Access Group
The Forest of Dean Cave Conservation and Access Group (FoDCCAG) arose from a specific need for a local access agreement on behalf of all cavers and a consequent need for a single representative body in the area to liaise with statutory bodies and organisations. The caving clubs most active in the area already had close links and regularly worked together on projects, and after discussion within their memberships, the group was established in January 1998.
The aims of the group are to:
• Maintain and implement a conservation plan for all underground sites in the Forest of Dean.
• Maintain present access arrangements and negotiate future access if required.
• Record all exploration and scientific work.
• Act as a local medium for relevant discussion
The Group is a regional body of the British Caving Association. In accordance with our aims the Group is actively involved in environmental conservation and access to underground sites. This includes the monitoring of pollution and taking action when necessary to involve the relevant authorities. The Group works with English Nature in connection with the SSSI sites in the area and bat monitoring.
